Anna Montgomey

B i o g r a p h y

Anna Montgomery is a lyric soprano establishing her career on the operatic and concert stage.

In her recently completed graduate studies at Michigan State University Ms. Montgomery sought to expand and diversify her performance capabilities.  In addition to performing the roles of Giulia (La Scala di Seta), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Rose Maurrant (Street Scene), and Gertrude (Hansel and Gretel), this past spring she performed and produced a fully staged production of Ricky Ian Gordon’s Orpheus and Euridice. This production, put on in collaboration with the Advanced Studies Gateway at the FRIB, reinterpreted the classic myth to reflect the journey of love, loss, healing and beauty experienced by survivors of the #MeToo movement. In addition to these and multiple recitals, she has appeared in master classes with renowned artists including Renée Fleming, Richard Bonynge, Lenore Rosenberg, and Terri Hansen.

Ms. Montgomery’s concert appearances include Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Handel’s Messiah with the Michigan State Symphony Orchestra, Fauré’s Requiem, as well as with MSU’s contemporary music series, Musique 21. This December she joins the Muses Project in Arkansas for their Voices of Angels concerts, and in February she sings Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem with the Broomfield Symphony in Colorado.

Her efforts to refine and explore her vocal and dramatic talents have recently brought her to elite summer training programs, recently including the Fresh Inc Festival in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Lauren Flanigan’s Audition Boot Camp in New York City. In previous summers she attended the Martina Arroyo Prelude to Performance program where she covered the role of Nannetta in Falstaff (2018), Brevard Music Festival (2017), Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Institute (2016), and Opera Steamboat (Formerly the Emerald City Artist Institute) in her home state of Colorado (2016).

This May Ms. Montgomery was named a Career Bridges Grant recipient. Other recent competition victories include placing first in the Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition, Division and Graduate/Advanced Category Winner of the Great Lakes Region NATS, and she was a national finalist in the American Vocal Arts’ International Collegiate Singing Championship.
